I need help, as I do not understand the behavior that presents itself in front of my eyes, somewhat strange! I bought a CF-IDE40 Converter Card Module adapter with a 32GB Compact Flash CF.

Once the components and windows 95C were installed on my IBM 330 6577 machine, I enabled DMA. However I noticed something strange, windows seemed slow to start up and shut down, like applications to start up. In fact, the Compact Flash CF is slower than the mechanical disc!

The Compact Flash sees it as compatible and has allowed me to enable DMA.

So I did some tests, these are the results:

I took a look at the bios and found DMA resources. Only in Channel 2 there is System Resources, for everything else there is only the wording available.

Why this problem?

What drives are you using? Some CF cards are slow.

There were also a few flawed IDE controllers, but that computer appears to have IDE integrated into the chipset.

I discovered in the bios in Drives and Ports I/E, that there are some settings to set for the disk.
In fact, on IDE Functionality it was set to "Compatible" I changed it to "High Performance".
These are the results (Speed has now improved, However I don't come close to 33MB/s):

There is one other feature that I haven't touched, I have no idea if it will be useful anymore: IDE Data Preload in Reading is set to Disabled.
Do you know if it is useful if I enable it?

I'd enable it and see. What is the rated speed of the converter and are there other drives on the cable?

It doesn't say what the speed of the ide mode is, so it could be extremely slow. Also what dma mode is it in?

I found this Chinese dealer. It looks like the same product I bought in germany.
In the description it says:
Standard IDE interface, true-IDE mode, and support DMA-33 transfer mode.
Could I try to take this? (Or it's the same one I have. Maybe it certainly is.)
How do you control the DMA mode? I activated it and restarted the PC. In the square appears the tick  is activated.

I was able to find the details of the card.

Maybe I should take this? A Compact Flash Card EXTREME UDMA 7?

Yes I would go for that faster one. Keep in mind 120 / 8 = 15megabytes a second.

That is, if I take that CF I get to a maximum of 15Mb/s?

I am asking this because currently, I am approaching a speed of 14MB/s. If I have to spend more suns just to recover 1mb/s, then I stay like that, as I am now.

Yes that is the math to determine megabytes a second since drive makers use 1000 to denote kilobytes and not 1024

I wanted to give it a try. Don't tell me why. But I installed Windows 98se and it's much more "responsive", "fast"! The disk test is pretty much the same, slightly higher, but I see that windows 98se is faster! It is noticeable when starting and shutting down windows. Programs also start faster. It is as if windows 98 handles the speed of the CF better.

Driver maturity in windows 98se was better.

I wrote to the seller on ebay, on the CF I bought asking him for the characteristics, this is what he wrote to me:
According to the description, the 32 GB card has a reading speed of 300x.
i.e. 30 MB / s.
Could it be the adapter at this point? Or does it take a CF UDMA 7?
