I just recently purchased a MacBook Pro from a friend who is into storage auctions so the computer is legally in rightfully mine, but has another persons logins on that I need to remove somehow, so I found a video on YouTube that states I can reset the administrative password for a MacBook Pro that I don’t know any of the passwords to by using single user boot mode so I hit command plus the S key and power and booted in the single user boot mode on the tutorial.
here’s the tutorial… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjxAgiNqkDM
the video states the password reset can be accomplished by doing either of the following..
Process 1 - mount -uw / launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist ls /Users dscl . -passwd /Users/username password reboot Process 2 - mount -uw / rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone shutdown -h now
When i attempt process one, I get the following directly after typing [mount -uw /]..
localhost:/ root# mount -Uw / spaceman_metazone_init:476: metazone for device 0 of size 1243905 blocks (encrypted: 0-621952 unencrypted: 621952-1243905) spaceman_datazone_init:119: allocation zone on dev 0 for allocations of 1 blocks starting at paddr 40894464 spaceman_datazone_(nit:119: allocation zone on dev 0 for allocations of 2 blocks starting at paddr 39092224 spaceman_datazone_init:119: allocation zone on dev 0 for allocations of 3 blocks starting at paddr 48927232 spaceman_datazone_init:119: allocation zone on dev 0 for allocations of 4 blocks starting at paddr 35192832 Localhost:/ root# spaceman_trim_free_blacks :3009: scan took 0.472139 s. trims took 0.000000
Why does my prompt have localhost preceding :/ root#
My prompt Localhost :/ root# The tutorials prompt :/ root#
Just trying to understand how to accomplish the password reset. Sorry in advance for any confusion I tried explaining my problem the best I could
Much Thanks,
