I was just trying to install the free trial of BitDefender Antivirus Plus on my Windows 7 laptop, which runs very well. Everything about signing up was in English. Then a box appeared after running the .exe. Overall looked like asking for permission to install program. However, it was in German, which I don't speak., and I am leery of clicking on anything I don't fully understand.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I have been using MSE and been very careful until now, but I did click on something questionable by accident today and am now trying to rectify things. Ran the full MSE scan and found nothing, then the full (free) Bitdefender scan that was already installed and I only activate for scans, which also found nothing.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks!

Firetooth

Sorry, I meant to say I ran the full free ESET scan that found no malware.

Are you saying that you had ESET and MSE both installed at the same time? (Not recommended, and I never heard of a free version of ESET: only a 30-day free trial.) Did you completely remove those before attempting to install BitDefender? (I hear that ESET can be very difficult to uninstall, although MSE usually uninstalls smoothly.) BitDefender plans to end support for Windows 7 in January 2024 anyway, and btw the company is based in Romania so IDK why it would give you a message in German. Of course Microsoft might stop providing definitions for MSE at any time (surprising they have not already done so). You could stick with ESET (its pretty good), but they will want money in 30 days I believe.

You said nothing about the questionable something that you clicked on that caused you to start installing various antivirus software. Malwarebytes might have been my first suggestion. In any case, I would forget about installing BitDefender, particularly if ESET is already installed.
Patches? We don't need no stinkin Patches!

Uninstall MSE...it's of no value today.

Is ESET installed...or did you just use the online version?

I have ESET installed on my Win 7 and it works just fine if you just ignore the notices about Win 7 being unsupported.
