I say this is a stupid Gmail question because the answer may be obvious

to you. But it is not obvious to me and that is why I ask:

A company is offering me a contract but wants me to set up a Gmail account using a nickname and their preferred reference before the @gmail.com bit.

I tried to do it and it was incorrect. Now when I try again Google informs me my phone number has been used frequently. And so I cannot proceed.

I just do not know how to get out of this situation. I do not have another phone number.

That is my problem. Can anyone refer me to a knowledge source or advise me what to do?

Thanking you in advance for your help,

Dear everyone,

A company wants to send me a contract and needs me to set up an extra Gmail account according to their specification.

I tried and failed to get the name correct. Unfortunately, when I tried again Google rejected my phone number as it had been used frequently.

I cannot complete the set up to recieve the ID verfiification code.

How can I go about it another way to avoid the phone number verfication? I only have two Gmail accounts and one is a mistake.

I wouldlike to delete the mistake account and set up a correct one.

Does anyone have any experience of this? I'm sure it is very common and there must be a way round it.

Thanks in advance for any ideas

Hi Saruman,
You can check if there's an option to use an alternative email address for verification instead of a phone number during the signup process. If that's not available, you can a trusted friend or family member's phone number temporarily for verification.
Once your account is set up, you can remove their phone number from your account settings. And remember to delete the mistaken Gmail account first to free up the email address you want to use.

Could this be the problem?

In any case your obvious next step is to contact the company that is asking you to do this.
It's quite likely that they have come across this issue before.

(Note that, depending just what this "contract" is for, this may be a 'new employee' test to see what you do, and how long it takes you. Asking for help may well be the correct answer to such a test).
