I need a website for my company. Nothing complicated. I need a simple website. So I want to do it myself. Who can say if it is better to buy a domain and hosting from one company or from different ones? How to choose the right domain zone?

Hi,

I've always purchased my domain names and web hosting from different vendors, but I'm sure using the same vendor would also work in many cases.

I currently use GoDaddy for my domains.

I purchase hosting form different vendors, depending on my needs.  Usually I'll review them at webhostingtalk.com before subscribing to their services.

For a small website, you can get away with using an inexpensive "shared hosting" provider; I've used Hawk Host in the past and they were great for the cheap price they offered service at.

As for choosing a top level domain (which is what I assume you mean by "zone"), I tend to stay with .com for business sites -- but others would also work; You'll probably want to choose one that is common for business sites in the region in which your customers reside.

Good luck!

Just a thought: If, both your Domain Registration and Host are the same, and you fall out with your Host, or move to a cheaper/larger/more capable one, you would lose your Domaine Name, unless they were prepared to sell it on.

Which would, of course, cost you money. Probably enough money to make up to them, for the loss of your business

This is not so important. It is important the domain registrar and hosting don’t hide anything. I want to warn you the price of domain renewal can be 10 times more expensive than registration. Such cases often happen. Especially if you will be registering at some new registrar. I have been using https://pananames.com/ for 5 years. Here are fair prices for domain renewals. And also all prices are visible for 10 years in advance.

Thanks for the detailed answers. How convenient is it to use website builders? Can I make a website myself to make it look modern?

Yes, I have tried such tools. If nothing difficult needs to be done, then it is quite possible to cope on your own. Many hosting providers offer such simple tools.

Hey, this is not a big deal.

There are many popular websites where you can buy domain and hosting at the same time. The main factor you should care about is from the spamming sites.

If you want top level domain then go for .com or .org as per your business industry.

I think, buying domain and hosting from same  or different company doesn't matters much. The domain can be selected according to how you want your service or industry recognized by others

Very much depends on what the website needs to do. If it needs just simple HTML and simple CSS then there are plenty of editors to choose from. There are many things that experienced developers do that seem stupid to beginners. Experienced developers have learned the value of doing extra work so that it is less work later. So it depends on how much you want to learn. Since this is an old question it is not worth getting into details but for the benefit of others the answer depends on many things.

There is one thing I feel I must comment on. In reply to you would lose your Domaine Name I believe you that you believe that. The chances are that that is highly untrue and is likely a horrible lie that the hosting company is telling their customers. In the case of Fatcow they told me I could loose my domain if I did not renew my hosting service. I knew that was not true. We subscribe to domain names from a registration service and hosting services are not registration services (I forget the official name). I called Fatcow and told them I wanted to renew my domain name but not the hosting plan and they downgraded my account, no problem.

The choice of domain name registrar is impotant but since this is an old question I won't get into the details here.

For anyone finding this discussion when they do a search, note that there are many services that make it easy to create websites that also make it difficult to move the website elsewhere when there is a need to do that.

As per my experience, You should choose the website hosting and domain for the different vendors.

You definitely can buy a web domain name from one company and host the site on another companies servers or your own. You just need to change the DNS server settings to point to the IP you want the domain name to resolve to

Whether to choose a single company for both domain registration and hosting or separate providers depends on your specific needs and priorities. Opting for a single company can simplify management and potentially offer bundled deals. However, it could limit flexibility and make it harder to switch providers in the future. Going with different companies allows you to select the best services for each aspect, potentially optimizing performance and support.  Click here to for further informationhttps://modrenget.com/.
