If a recovery program finds and recovers some of the missing files from an external hard drive, is it possible to then use a second, different recoverey software to try to find and recover anything the first recovery program  failed to find on thge drive?  I have seen that some recovery programs are better at recovering certain types of lost data such as documents or images, while other programs are better at finding different types of data such as video or audio.  Likewise, some programs seem to rtetgrieve only deleted files, other programs are for all lost data but are bettert on a type of hard drive such as the C drive or an external drive or a reformatted drive etc...

I have been unable to find out if recovering data using one program renders the drive incapable of use by any other recovery prtogram.  I have Windows 10 and the drive I hope to recover data from is an external hard drive.  I  have not yet purchased a  recovery program and which one I choose may depend on if it is the only one I'll be using.

Read the info in link below. You can use a LIVE flash drive or DVD with Ubuntu installed on them to

recover files. No need to purchase.

Thanks Buddy215, invaluable info I never saw in searches for recovery info.  Hope the tools do the job and if so it'll be all thanks to you.

You can absolutely use multiple data recovery software programs on the same drive, especially if they have different strengths in recovering specific types of data.

Windows 10 should work fine with most recovery programs, especially for an external hard drive. Just make sure to follow the recommended steps and precautions provided by the software to avoid any conflicts.

There's no need to revive such an old, abandoned topic.

Thank you
