Assuming everything goes accordingly, you will be able to update Windows.

You can follow this tutorial Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade | Tutorials (tenforums.com) to perform the update. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Hi, sorry for the late reply, I have now school, so I only have access to my PC during the weekend. I did the "in place upgrade" but my PC got a bsod "kmod_exception_not_handled". And now it tries to undo the update but the bsod appears again. I can't boot windows. I know I can go through safeboot but I don't know how to access it.

In the recovery options that you should automatically enter once Windows has failed to boot a few times, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart. Once restarted you'll see a list of options to choose from, choose Safe Mode.

You don't see any other screen than Windows trying to undo the update and crashing with a BSOD after it happens 3 or more times in a row?

Yes, I will try again this weekend but I already tried like 10 times and I even reduce the number to 1 fail boot in the BIOS, but nothing changed. The weird thing is that 1 time my PC does the blue screen then restart and then does the blue screen again but this time it doesn't restart, I have to shut it down manually.

I would recommend that you prepare a little if possible by creating recovery media using a computer that can boot. Should you not get the recovery options, then you can boot from the recovery media and we can work from that point.

See the link here for how to:

Although it does provide the option to reinstall Windows, we'll be using other options to troubleshoot this in which you won't lose your files.

I do think it is smart if you create a backup of your files if you don't have any (recent) backup yet, for which an external hard drive would be a good place to store the backup. You should be able to use the recovery media for this too.

Ok, I will buy an external hard drive (I was planning to buy one anyway). And I also have a laptop that could do the job. I'm doing everything Friday/Saturday. Is this alright?

Boot from the USB which you can do by selecting it from the boot menu, or in the BIOS change the boot order to put the USB at the top of the list and then continue to boot. Once you're booted into the recovery media you should see a few options,

- Continue

- Use a device

- Troubleshoot

- Turn off your pc

Select Troubleshoot

If anything is off from what I mention, let me know before progressing to the next step please, this applies to any step mentioned in further instructions as well as in this post.

If you do not see your USB in the boot menu or in the BIOS, please let me know.

Kind regards,
Axe0

There are two more devices:
USB: General UDisk 5.00
UEFI: General UDisk 5.00
Which one do I choose?
