This OP posts the same question (really, rant) on other forum sites, including dslreports.com. Many, many people have answered his question, and read/listened to his rants, but he continues to insist they are wrong and he is right.

This person is looking for an audience, not technical help.

I have extreme knowledge of routing. It is you who does not have any or little knowledge or trying to misdirect readers.

I have asked for anyone to provide an example of their trace route to their vendor ??? I am sure none will have a private IP address as a route to their ISP as I have in line 6 of my trace. how do I know I have compared other ISP and asked Vmedia to explain but no answer.

I suspect this is being done to allow traffic to be monitored outside of non encrypted traffic by joining another private IP other than my private IP.

Your knowledge of the subject matter is irrelevant.

You've started this rant on multiple public forums and people are tired of engaging with you.

And here's a tip: insulting people won't help.

So you have a CCIE from Cisco, because that's what I hear when you say extreme knowledge of routing

Does it constantly happen, because it could have been just a fluke.

Lol I feel like this is more of a solicitation to try and get someone's IP.

As others have stated, ISP's use private interfaces all the time. Examples of this are GRE tunnels, IPSEC tunnels. Like others state it is likely a router or switch's interface inside someone's data center.

For the sake of education, here is a traceroute from HQ to one of our branches. See all private addresses 2 hops via ipsec tunnel.

Tracing route to 192.168.23.1 over a maximum of 30 hops

  1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  192.168.251.1
  2     8 ms     8 ms     8 ms  192.168.23.1

Chiquatli the trace you provided is your provide IP address 192.168.251.1 in my trace route you will see my trace route also starting with 192.168.100.x but as the trace continues to my ISP Vmedia a second private IP address shows 172.23.1.65 on line 6.

This is why I asked for anyone to provide a trace route to their ISP and why user shplad some how has viewed my previous posts (who does that except someone wanting to hide information)

What would the purpose of a second private IP ( only used for home network purposes to be Network address translated to the public network) Also note the trace is to my ISP which should be short only 3 or so hops.

Which is the resolving IP for vmedia.ca. That IP you keep griping about is not a private IP. If they were using a Private IP to keep malware, etc from getting through their network it would be a transparent IP scheme to act as a Proxy on the appliance all traffic has to go through from entering their network to exiting out to the actual Internet backbone they connect to.

I have provided examples of this earlier in one of your argument posts

I will say it again: it is completely normal to do and nothing out of the ordinary!

You will need to get some certification, specifically CCIE Service Provider. Once you have that we can discuss this matter further
