I almost forgot - How do I find reliable Windows drivers? I've mostly steered clear of those because of possible malware and not know which sites are reliable.

To Shplad, when I plug in the cable I get not lights at all for the most part. It used to work just fine until recently. The Lan cable connects to the Eero with no problems. I'm thinking it's this ancient HP 8200 Minitower. It was used extensively when I had a small recording studio, especially having 10 USB ports and memory expansion slots. Sometimes it would literally run for days at a time with me and another tech doing mixdowns and mastering with Presonus Studio One 5. So that may be part of it. It's so old that I cannot run Windows 11.

The best way to get drivers is to either:

- Manually download them, either from your PC/motherboard manufacturer's webpage for that model or;

- For Chipset/GPU drivers, use Chipset/GPU update programs, from Intel/AMD/Nvidia or download drivers directly from their websites.

Anything else is often a compromise at best, and chock full of malware at worst.

I'm very confused about this:

when I plug in the cable I get not lights at all for the most part. It used to work just fine until recently. The Lan cable connects to the Eero with no problems.

How do you know the Ethernet cable is good for certain if you're having problems with intermittent Ethernet connectivity?

Have you tried swapping out the cable for another?

Have you tried that cable on a known good other PC/client device to test if it works properly?

If you plug in the cable and get no LEDs lit up on both your PC and the router, then either:

- The Ethernet port is defective on the router/modem

- The Ethernet port/chip is dying on your PC

- You have a bad Ethernet cable.

Not sure what you mean "The LAN cable connects to the Eero with no problems".

IT is all about being very precise. Please lay it all out precisely by directly answering our questions, preferably in point form.

Example:

- This doesn't work when connected to that.

- That does work when connected to that other thing

- This never worked at all.

To svim: I finallyt got into the router using 192.168.254.254. The usual 192.168.1.1 is for the Eero. That thing is a royal pain. Anyway, I think I know what you are referring to so I copied the Router settings.
I'll attach them ( or at least try to  :scratchhead:  ) :

I've been thinking more on this as to a timeline. The Ethernet cable is good as it works jusr fine when plugged into the Eero and my TV. Everthinbg was cool until I had a phone installed a few months ago. It is not a lindline but a VoIP which entailed putting in a new router. I was having trouble getting WiFi in the far part of the house and my shop, so Frontier installed an Eero in the house and one in the shop. It just hit me that is when my problems started. From what I gathered. The new router is an Arris, if that helps. The LAN cable works  just fine in everything but my PC. That makes no sense to me at all.

Can  someone tell me, step by step, how to enter the stuff I sent as attachments. At least5 I assume that is what is I would need. I'm about ready to tell Frontrier to take a hike and find another provider. The things they are doing are really strange, especially since the new router and the Eero's. That"s when things got weird.

As to finding drivers, my PC is so old that HP no longer supports it. I hope there is some way to update it so I can run Win 11.

To Shpllad: I was probably in sucha hurry that my typing came out garbbled. What I meant was, when I plug into the PC the light will come on and blinking only a vey few times. Now it doesn't come on at all. AsI stated, the cable works on everything except my PC. Go figure.  Makes no sense to me at all

You have posted a ton of information, most of it disorganized. Please summarize the data in a few bulleted points instead of writing long paragraphs, much of which isn't relevant.

I fully agree with @shplad.

Furthermore, quote,  "As to finding drivers, my PC is so old that HP no longer supports it. I hope there is some way to update it so I can run Win 11."

It is almost certain that you will not be able to update your "so old HP" to Win11.

And, with all due respect, there is almost nothing that can be deducted from your above attached router settings, as those .txt files are templates with no info on it.

Ok. Sorry.  I don't really know what info you all need. I see something that looks relevant to me and that's all I can do. If you each would tel me specifically what you need , item by item, and were to access it I can do that. Otherwise I can onhy send info that may seem disorganized. I acn only tell you what is going on but have no idea what to send in bullet frashion. Please be specific and kinda dumb it down for me. Thanks

On what devices have you tried Ethernet cable in question?

Which lights light up on your router-modem, for how long and in what colour?

Ok. I will try to list each point from the replies. I'm apologize, but I tend to get tied up in a lot of details, but that ia just me. I'm a detail person who gets carried away sometimes.

I only used PubMed as an example. I also find studies at Johns-Hopkins, Mayo, U of Michigan, Harvard med, U of Texas southwest Medical Branch, and others. It will block most all inquiries that list any opiates, regardless of whether they are prescrip or illicit.

The Eero is a type of range extender witrh two ethernet ports and voltage adaptor receptacle. It is accessed through an app on my phone as well as through the router. There are only limited options available as to settings.

I know that the ethernet cable is good because it connects to the Eero and my Samsung TV. It was working on my PC until the Eero was insatlled. I have pretty much narrowed the site-blocking to the Eero. I've never had that problem before, so it seesm that the Eero has something to do with the Cisco. I had never heard of Cisco before the Eero's were installed. I did find that it took over OpenDNS.

The Eero has one IP address which is different from the router. The Eero is 192.168.4.1 and the router is 192.168.254.254, if that helps any.

I accessed the ipconfig/all and attached it below. I can only assume that is what you need. I'm not familiar with all those terms.

I cannot find how to go back to the first page without losing this post, so I'll send that separate.

svim posted a list of options for DNS configuations. When I sent the router settings attachments, I thought maybe that was where the DNS resolver changes would be made. That was only a guess.that seems logical. What specifically do you need as to where to malke the changes for the DNS sesolver? Or is that even the right question to ask? It seesm that the Quad9 is a good option as I try to stay away from anything Google. How do I do that?

Cryptodan - After re-reading your reply, I am not going through a .gov site at NIH. I am using the portal through drugs.com. That way I don't have to muddle through a bunch irrelevant stuff to find things. Drugs. com has it very simplified. NIH is good but they don't seem to have all of the reaserch that the drugs.com has access to. I may be wrong about that though. But it works for me. Drugs.com is just more straight forward.

My apologies, but I tend to TMI a lot. I am a detail,nitty-gritty type person who goes imto minute detail on most things when it isn't neccessary.

If I missed listing anything please let me know, or if you need more clarification

Drugs.com might be marked as a spam or dangerous website, and nih.gov and fda.gov will have all the research from all medical facilities and private companies at your fingertips in a very detailed and comprehensive report.

CDC.gov will have research compiled from international health systems like the UK and Europe.

.....

The Eero is a type of range extender witrh two ethernet ports and voltage adaptor receptacle. It is accessed through an app on my phone as well as through the router. There are only limited options available as to settings.

......

I'm going to suggest that you abandon trying to fix/setup your home network yourself, and you should instead hire a dependable, local IT contractor to come in and properly set things up for you. Reading through this thread there are so many directions, suggestions, and wildly random descriptions of a variety of mixed networking devices -- i.e. an Eero is a specific brand of a mesh router. The issue being while the end result is the same with a conventional consumer router, functionally a mesh WiFi signal is not interchangeable with a conventional WiFi signal, so you use mesh routers and mesh nodes for a mesh network, and you use a conventional router and other, also conventional, routers, extenders, boosters, etc. for a typical WiFi network.

In your situation, are you indeed have both types of WiFi networks in place or just one or the other? If the latter, which one?

Also, as regarding DNS, there's no definitive evidence in your various data dumps of random info that DNS filtering is somehow behind your various online access issues.

I really don't think this situation is solvable by using an online help forum, or at best you'll end up with a usable solution that 'gets you online' but not much more. I'd suggest you aim higher and look for a stable and reliable home LAN that just works. In this case that might require a trained person to the necessary hands-on work (appropriate routers, check cable integrity, etc.) along with configuring things like a router to be secure and reliable, not just passably usable.
