Hi all,

For some reason using an authenticated SMTP I manage to send emails through my HP MFP machines, but when I use authenticated SMTP it always fails.

Any idea why this might be happening?

PS: The authentication username and password are 100% correct.

Thank you all

This is a highly specific to HP gear. I'd check HP's support site or call them about it.

However, there are some posts in the HP Support forums, such as this:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-Copying/smtp-authenticated-on-hp-printer-website-but-not-on-printer/m-p/8833192

If all that fails, I'd consider doing a packet trace to see what you could learn.

It really helps that you state what email program that you are trying to use along with who is hosting the email gateway. Since you are trying to do something regarding faxing, no email gateway will do what you want.

................... using an authenticated SMTP I manage to send emails................but when I use authenticated SMTP it always fails.

That sentence doesn't make sense.

If everything works fine when you use a server that doesn't require authentication then why is that a problem for you?

I hope I've understood what you're trying to say.

The problem is that whenever we are using SMTP without authentication its getting us blacklisted!

Ah, I see.

In the "Summary and Test" section of your last screenshot, it shows everything's OK yet displays the error "The operation failed". What operation and why did it fail? Without a proper error message it's going to be difficult to offer a fix and I'll just be playing guessing games.

Are you sure the username is in the correct format? Perhaps it should be just "office1.printer".

No you arr not getting blacklisted. It helps to know what mfg and model of printer, is this on a domain, or are you trying to connect to a third party email service. Also as stated before what you are trying to do will not work in teh way that you are trying to do it.

SMTP I'd what allows you to send email out to others.

There are ways to limit your server to certain users and various levels of security.

Default port is 25 but there are others

465
587
995

The 3 above are more secure then port 25 alone and require authentication to send.
